[La-cgs] WES evaluation requirements?

Hi All,
Our admission lead provided the info below. I hope it helps:


"We do not require a credential evaluation for international transcripts. We use a combination of AACRAO Edge, Scholaro, and World Higher Ed Database to assess equivalencies and GPAs. We do require English translations from certified translators if the institution does not provide an English translation.



>From my understanding, requiring evaluations was considered a few years back, but due to the cost to applicants, it was decided to continue on with internal reviews and assessments. However, we do include language in our catalog that the Grad School reserves the right to request an evaluation if an equivalency or GPA determination cannot be made from transcripts supplied"

At LSUS, we don’t do in-house evaluations.  Instead, require students to submit evaluations from companies that belong to NACES or AICE:



Students who attended institutions outside the United States should submit complete academic records for a course-by-course evaluation using one of the member institutions of the following organizations:

·         National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) www.naces.org<http://www.naces.org/> OR

·         Association of International Credentials Evaluators (AICE) www.aice-eval.org<http://www.aice-eval.org/>

Foreign medical graduates may submit evaluation through:

·          Federation Credentials Verification Service https://www.fsmb.org/fcvs/ <https://www.fsmb.org/fcvs/> OR

·          Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates www.ecfmg.org<http://www.ecfmg.org/>





WES is a member of NACES.

Good afternoon from LA Tech everyone,

We are discussing whether to require WES (or similar) transcript evaluations as a standard requirement for international student applications. A few programs on campus already require this, but there is no institution-wide evaluation mandate.

A few institutions are requiring it, I'd appreciate knowing how you're all approaching this and whether you have any general thoughts or feedback on it.
