Not sure if this helps, but we have had issues with no first name. My staff says that we use FNU (first name unknown) in Banner in those instances. We're following up with IT, Registrar, and UG Admissions to see if they have additional guidance. --mfk

Dear All -

I was wondering how you handle admissions when a student has only one name (first name). Our system requires a first and last name (required fields), which then becomes the student's permanent record (unless there’s a legal change in name).

If we use the first name as a last name, the system rejects it, as the first name field is left empty. Using N/A is not an option as that then becomes the first name.

Anyone run into this issue? How do you handle this? We are a Banner and Recruit School

When a student graduates, the name in the system is used on the degree certificate, so it is important to get it right.

Regards,

Sushma
