You may have meant to say "February meeting." The most recent set of
Minutes on the Board of Regents website is January, so your information
is new to me. Below my sign-off and the dashed line, I am pasting an
email I saw about this from Lupe Lamadrid to Jeannine Kahn. However,
please note that this concerns _undergrad admissions_; if approved, the
use of DuoLingo will no longer be considered an "exception." I don't
deal with UG admissions at all but I understand that universities are
allowed only a certain percentage of "exceptions" in their UG
admissions. At the graduate level, universities (or at least the
systems) appear to have some autonomy in deciding what methods are used
for determining English proficiency. When we decided to accept DuoLingo
for graduate admissions, our Provost sent an email to the UL Systems
informing them (not asking for permission).

Dear Jeannine –
I spoke with our team today regarding the continued use of Duolingo for
international student proficiency determination and placement.
Several campuses have been utilizing this instrument under our Emergency
Policy and have reached out to our office regarding its continued use.
Our staff is planning to recommend the permanent addition of Duolingo to
the Board of Regents Minimum Admissions Standards Policy: _Guidelines
for Students Graduating from Non-US High School _(Under 25 Years of Age;
Item 2, page 5) at our February 23 meeting.
Please share this information with your campuses, while we still need
Board approval, at least your EM staff can advise students in the meantime.
