[La-cgs] Question on revalidation process

Hi Anthony,

Welcome to the group! At LSUS, the period is 8 years. Students can request that older courses be considered through the program director who makes a recommendation to the Graduate Dean. If the Graduate Dean approves, a memo is sent from Graduate Studies to the Registrar stating that the courses may count toward the degree. Typically, only courses that have not changed significantly get recommended.

Subject: Re: [La-cgs] Question on revalidation process

Thanks Ramu. I guess I should clarify--I'm talking about revalidating students for courses that were taken prior to the 6 year expiration. We've had a few lately who have applied to have courses over 6 years old revalidated for their MAT. Our policy is written rather vaguely and interpretation is subjective.

Welcome to the group. Looking forward to meeting you in person soon. We have a periodic review (self-study) of degrees that are not accredited by an external entity. Our policy and a template for the self-study are provided here: https://www.latech.edu/administration/policies/p-2224/. I hope this is useful to you.

Best regards,
Ramu

Hi All,

I'm new to my role as Director of Graduate Studies here at Nicholls State. I appreciate the thread here. Recently I've been asked about the revalidation process at our University and I'm receiving a lot of nebulous answers regarding departmental processes for revalidation. Some departments have more than others requesting revalidation, but it is not something happening often in any department. When it does happen, I am interested in the process and any consistencies we might offer--University wide.

I'm curious as to whether you all have specific guidelines within your grad programs, or if this is something that is handled without question within each department?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony
