[Dba-l] PROVOST MEMO Summer Quarter 2024 (please note important policy change)

All,

Call me pedantic, but I want to ensure everyone is aware of the new rule communicated today by the Provost.
Before each drop day (the last day a student may drop a class and receive a "W"), the students MUST know their current grade in the class so they can make an informed decision.

That means all grades up to that date must be posted somewhere the student can access! If you assign a homework assignment, it must be graded, and that grade posted. The same holds for quizzes and tests. You cannot assume the student is aware of their standing. Those grades MUST be posted.

The same holds for final grades. At the end of the quarter, all individual assignment grades must be posted somewhere the student can access so that any person who saw the information could see how the student's final grade was calculated.

The summer drop dates are (but this rule holds for ALL future quarters):

June  24  M       Last day to drop courses or resign with “W” grades for the 1st 6-week session

July  30    T     Last day to drop courses or resign with “W” grades for the 2nd 6-week session

Thanks,
rob

Subject: [Facstaff-l] PROVOST MEMO Summer Quarter 2024 (please note important policy change)

Dear faculty,

Welcome to Summer Quarter 2024! I've attached the quarterly Provost Memo, which includes necessary administrative and policy information for the courses you teach.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On page 3 (item #4) of the memo, I highlighted an important policy change that was enacted by the Council of Academic Deans at its March 2024 meeting and approved by Dr. Henderson. Policy 2211 has been updated accordingly.

Finally, for the convenience of current and future faculty, the information included in the attached memo will be posted on the Provost's Office website prior to Fall Quarter 2024. I will send email reminders at the appropriate time.

Have a great Summer Quarter! DT
