I'd be game, Sanjay.
We have our broad guidelines and now have a disclosure expectation in our final manuscripts (theses, dissertations, and synthesis projects), but I will be the first to admit that getting our individual programs to adopt discipline-specific guidance that goes beyond an academic-honesty approach continues to be slow going.
I'll add also that I'm leaving on Thursday to participate in a Mellon Foundation / CGS convening called "Beyond the Algorithm: Humanities Graduate Students as Leaders in AI." Since humanities has been the area with the greatest hesitancies and push back on our campus, I am really looking forward to this small gathering. It's my understanding that we'll develop a set of recommendations and, hopefully, they'd be available to share as part of this panel as CSGS.
If you've already got partners lined up, no worries. If not, just let me know next steps and what you need.
Thanks for suggesting!
Mary

Hi all,
Many of you might have received this call for proposals for the CSGS meeting. I am considering submitting something and would like to team up with someone in this group to submit a joint proposal.
Inspired by Mary’s work at ULL on AI policy for graduate work, I started working on an AI policy & procedure at LSUS just for theses and dissertations. After about a year and a half of committee work, this past year, our Graduate Council approved the new policy and procedure. It is now in the thesis manual, and we are in the first year of implementation. By the time of the CSGS meeting, we will have at least some “data” on how it has worked (or not). I believe sharing our approach and experience may be beneficial to others at CSGS who might just be starting out on this path.
I know many of you have been through a similar process, and I'm hoping one or more of you would like to join me in developing a proposal.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Sanjay

The Conference of Southern Graduate School's Annual Conference is set for Arlington, Virginia, February 17th - 19th, 2027.
Deadlines:
Proposals <https://www.csgs.org/annual-meeting> are due October 9th
Thesis<https://www.csgs.org/thesis-awards>/Faculty <https://www.csgs.org/faculty-awards> Award Nominations are due November 2nd
As we gather for the 2027 Conference of Southern Graduate Schools in Arlington, Virginia<https://www.csgs.org/annual-meeting>, we do so at a moment that requires bold, intentional leadership in graduate education.
Our conference theme—Leading Intentional Change in Graduate Education—highlights vision as a defining leadership skill. Graduate education leaders are navigating rapid and complex changes, including the rise of generative AI, evolving federal policies (such as financial aid limits, transparency requirements, and grant funding shifts), constraints on international student mobility, the emergence of 90-credit bachelor’s degrees, administrative interest in OPMs, and other changes that are impacting graduate admissions, student success and wellness, and graduate programs.
Amid these shifts, institutions must balance responsiveness with their enduring mission: fostering deep disciplinary knowledge and advanced critical thinking in graduate students. This dynamic creates critical tensions between innovation and academic depth; expediency and rigor; traditional preparation and workforce readiness. Grounded in the energy and policy context of the Washington, DC region, this conference will equip participants with practical strategies to lead confidently through uncertainty and change.
Click here <https://www.csgs.org/annual-meeting> to read the Request for Proposals and submit. The deadline for proposal submissions is October 9th, 2026, 11:59 pm (EST).
We have set the deadlines for the Thesis Award <https://www.csgs.org/thesis-awards> and Faculty Award<https://www.csgs.org/faculty-awards> Nominations for November 2nd, 2026, 11:59 pm (EST).
