Dear Sushma (and all),

Congratulations to you, Sushma. I am so happy for you. They have made an incredibly smart decision—their students and faculty are going to benefit much from your experience, presence, care. They are fortunate to get you!

Know that WAGS has some great people, and I know they’ll be ready to support you in the transition.

And yet I admit to some selfish sadness. We are going to miss you—your experience, your presence, and your care. You have made us and grad education in our state better and stronger. I am going to miss you!

To us, I think we are going to need to step up! Sushma has made sure we continued to connect the last several years. Let’s make sure we do her proud—supporting her and ULM in the big transitions ahead.

What big news. So happy for you, Sushma!

I have some news to share with you. Tomorrow is my last day at ULM. I am moving to Eastern Washington University, Spokane as the Inaugural Dean of Graduate Studies & Research. I will be in Monroe until mid-June.

It has been a pleasure and honor to work with all of you these past nine years. This group was critical in keeping me afloat, especially during the first couple of years when I came in as a new dean. Since then, you have been the oxygen in the room and a safe place to reflect and bring back new ideas to campus.

I will miss you all! Do keep in touch.
