[La-cgs] FW: Request for feedback - 3MT competition

Dear LA Council:

I promise this is the last time I email about this topic. Thus far we have six competitors. I am expecting two from Southern and two from ULL. If you plan to nominate anyone, please let me know. Although Friday is the suggested deadline, I am willing to wait until Monday to get the names and emails. I do need to start communicating with the nominated students soon. I worry that it may already be too late - students may be on their semester break and may not be checking emails.

Note that the scholarships from the BoR for the Winner/Runner-Up/Peoples' Choice are significantly higher ($4,000; $2,000; $1,000) than the cash awards we give in our local (or even CSGS) competitions.

Best regards,
Ramu

Subject: Request for feedback - 3MT competition

Dear friends:

I am writing to provide (a) a gentle reminder about my email dated November 4, 2025 (Subject: Mark the date: LA-NEXT and 3MT - January 8, 2026) and (b) an update. The previous email included the following requests:

  1. Please disseminate this information on your campus among graduate advisors and students.
  2. Please nominate two competitors* from your campus to participate in the 3MT by Friday, December 12. [I know the timing is terrible; we hope to do better next year.]
  3. Please share information about LA-NEXT with the researchers and research leaders on your campus and encourage them to attend.

Updates:
The winner, runner-up, and People's Choice awardee at the 3MT competition will receive scholarships (tentatively, $4000, $2000, and $1000) from the project. The project director has also agreed to cover the travel costs for the competitors.

I encourage you to name your competitors earlier than Dec 12 if possible. This will give us more time to get in touch with them to provide them additional information about the competition, discuss travel logistics, etc.

Best regards,
Ramu
