[La-cgs] Financial Aid Certification

Hi all,

I recently learned that our Financial Aid office does not certify private loans for domestic and international students. So, if a student gets an educational loan from a bank or private lender, and the lender will only transfer funds directly to the institution, our financial aid office says they cannot issue a statement stating that the student is enrolled in specific courses and what the amount of tuition fees due is. In the particular situation I am dealing with right now, the lending company refused to send the funds to LSUS without the loan certification and as a result the student has been dropped for nonpayment. This is an international student who successfully obtained a visa on the basis of his I-20 listing the loan and who is already here!

What is the situation on your campus? If your financial aid office certifies loan (I can't imagine they don't!), please send me your responses. The fact that others in Louisiana are doing it may persuade the powers that be to make the necessary policy/procedural change.

Thanks in advance!

Sanjay
