Ramu,

No. There's no way we have found to code "conditional" admission in Workday so it's really an unused category at this point.

So, you don't admit non-degree seeking applicants in a "conditional" category, right?

Best,
Ramu

All,

Anyone who is not currently a student who wants to take a class at UNO has to apply and be admitted as either degree seeking or non-degree. For those in the latter category who want to take graduate courses, we confirm bachelor's degree but don't require official transcripts. If they then want to move to degree seeking, they have to reapply and submit everything officially (including any program specific requirements).

For current students, we do not require any additional paperwork to take a course outside of the current program. The student is just made aware during advising that the course will not count towards the degree. For new students, we are currently evaluating our processes. We basically follow the UL system guidelines for admissions which allows for regular, conditional, or non-degree seeking admissions. What I am finding is that for most students that do not meet regular admission guidelines, programs are using conditional and non-degree status interchangeably. Once students meet some departmental guideline, they can be changed to regular status. Some programs do this because they want to state that they do not accept students conditionally. For us, this is all separate from academic standing. I have also encountered situations in which a program wants to accept a student, but on a probationary academic standing.

Ramu, thanks for staring this conversation. I look forward to everyone's input as it will help me.

Morning, all. We have several "non-degree" options for pursuing grad-level courses, but we do require a base admission to graduate studies-basically verification of the bachelor's degree. We do not admit them in conditional admission status.

When someone wants to take a course for credit outside a regular program, they are admitted as a "special status" student. They need written permission from the course director involved, submit an application (to get them into the system), and pay tuition.

Dear Council members:

At Louisiana Tech, a student pursuing a graduate certificate or someone who is simply taking a course (we call it "Life Long Learning") are admitted as "Conditional" by default. Are we required to do that? I don't see any policy in the UL System that applies to graduate certificate admissions/academic standing. Please let me know what policy/policies you have in these cases. Thank you.

Best regards,

Ramu
