[La-cgs] Grad students have been a cash cow; now universities fret over graduate enrollment

Hi Ramu,
Thanks for the attachment! The code 52.1301 is Management Science and 52. 1399 is Management Sciences and Quantitative Methods. In most general business MBAs, you only have one or two courses that can be classified as Management Science. If you have a concentration like HR or Family Business, there might only be one course in Management Science or related areas. This could be why MBA programs by and large do not have STEM designations or faculty are hesitant to adopt it.
On a related note, some MPH programs (e.g., Tulane?) have STEM designations. Our faculty are not in favor of this as our program is not quantitative enough to justify the designation.

Sanjay:
Good question. I suggested to the dean of Business that the CIP code 52.1301 should apply to all tracks in the MBA (see the last page of the attachment). They are thinking about it. I don't know if the change will have some implications for AACSB accreditation. We obviously cannot have a separate CIP code for one or two tracks within the same degree.
Best regards,
Ramu

Thanks, Albertha! Interesting read...
Ramu: Is the STEM designation for the MBA just for a specialization - e.g., Data Analytics? Wondering how they got a STEM designation for a general MBA.

Albertha:
Thank you for the link. We offer a MS in Engineering & Technology Management and now have a doctoral degree in the same area, both with STEM designation. Our College of Business is not thrilled about that, but I am trying to get them to seek STEM designation for their MBA too.
Best regards,
Ramu
