We are planning to cover the tuition and mandatory fees for Graduate Teaching Assistants (as defined in our policy, these are instructors of record, who have at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline). The tuition and fees for Graduate Research Assistants are paid by the research grant budgets that fund them. In the case of BoR grants which do not allow tuition to be charged, we provide tuition (and now fees) as match. We don’t have any curatorial assistants.

We are trying to determine exactly what Act 664/SB76 entails.  This is the Fees Assessed to Graduate Assistants policy:

Student fees may be waived and a stipend may be paid to graduate assistants.  The out-of-state fee is considered a student fee and is eligible for waiver (Board Rules, Chapter II, Section XV).
Payments to cover or a waiver of any mandatory fee imposed except for tuition shall be included in the compensation package of each graduate student serving as a teaching assistant, research assistant, or curatorial assistant (LRS 17:3351(A)(5)(a)(ii)).

I was wondering what everyone was doing to address this bill.  Does this mean that if graduate students have any fees waived, the university or PI has to come up with the funds for the waived fees?
