We have also had coordinators use the last 60 hour GPA rule and have factored in graduate courses in that average (as they are part of the last 60 hours).

Hope this helps!
John

Hi Nancy:

Like my colleagues, GSU's policy allows us to base our decision on a student's graduate record irrespective of their undergraduate cgpa. As long as a graduate student has earned another graduate degree and/or their graduate cgpa is higher than their undergraduate cgpa, they can be admitted unconditionally. If there's an issue regarding this, the matter is taken up by the Graduate Council for deliberation.

Nancy:

We have admitted international students with low undergrad GPA but acceptable graduate GPA's from the US. If the undergrad GPA of 1.97 is calculated in-house, the error bars are likely to be large because of the variations in grading systems, etc. Likewise, if the MBA is from a US institution, that may provide a better indicator of the student's academic ability.

My philosophy: "We have policies so that we know when we make an exception." 😁

Best regards,
Ramu

Hi Nancy,

We have specific language in our catalog that states that those with graduate degrees are eligible for unconditional admission if they meet program requirements (regardless of the UG degree). The assumption is you were previously found good enough for graduate study.

Your question also relates to the transcript requirement we were discussing at our meeting. If you need to calculate the two UG GPAs, then you need all transcripts from all institutions attended. I plan to take this up with the LSU group.

Subject: [La-cgs] Admission question

All (but mostly for ULS deans),

Happy Wednesday and end of the semester! I have an admission question I would love some input on.

Chapter II, Section IX: Admission to Graduate Study<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://s25260.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/F.5.-C-II.IX-Admission-to-Graduate-Study.pdf__;!!NGa5sw!bp4XVD6qDW1sgntnCXGc2N1DQboldm1qm-SPUXpwvxVeYXJnAp8QrmJyLkQjvVEYME-_BE2J3-gcTINDr4Y$> of the ULS policy set the requirement for admission to a bachelor’s or equivalent and “a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate work attempted or 2.75 on all upper division course work attempted” for regular admission to graduate study. It does not provide for any consideration of graduate work. I have an international applicant who has a bachelors with 1.97 GPA but an MBA with 3.12 GPA. The way I read this policy, there is no provision for regular admission for students who may have improved their academic performance in graduate student. Of course, students to do not meet this standard may be eligible for “provisional admission” on a case by case basis but that is not an option for a student seeking an I-20. The only option I can see is for the student to apply for undergraduate study at UNO, improve the undergraduate GPA and then apply for graduate programs.

Agree? Am I missing something? I would not even bother everyone but there’s a very persistent fiancé who’s currently enrolled at UNO who is relentless in her campaign for this student.
