John,

Sorry for the delayed response! It was good to see you at the SELU Investiture last week. Here are my responses:

  1. All our 100% online programs have 6 start dates. Even so, for GA purposes, we go by the traditional semester - Fall and Spring with the option to extend some to 6/30. Students have to register for 9 hours even if the courses are in two different 7-week sessions to qualify for a full-time GA position. We have a large number of online students and limited GA positions. So, they all get filled by at the start of the term, which means the scenario you describe does not really arise.
  2. We don't have many intersession courses, but if a student were to take one during the appointment period, he/she would be eligible.

Sanjay

Subject: [La-cgs] Multiple Entry Points

We have created a few online courses that are now creating a few problems and was wondering if you had these issues arise.

1) A few online programs have multiple entry points throughout the semester. Do you have any programs with multiple entry points and if so, have you had issues with GA positions and funding? We will have students who qualify and need GA funding that are admitted during term 2 dates. Given their start date, they may not be able to work the 320 hours required (20 hours per week). Have you had to deal with this?

2) Do your GA stipend cover tuition for intersession courses? We have not covered them in the past, but are getting requests to do so.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,
John
