Thank you for generating this discussion as I was also a bit confused on our role in this. McNeese will not be setting up a table either.

Thanks,
Eddie

Thanks Ramu,

I have email from Jeannine, and have been in contact with her and Claire. Some of us don't have terminal degree programs, but I'm just confused on what Graduate Deans are supposed to set up tables to display at this point. I don't see how recruitment of faculty is our role, though I'm always willing to sell what we have.

I guess the question would be, how many of you are setting up tables for tomorrow?

Dear LA-CGS members:

This is the email from Jeannine Kahn about today's event. Only applies to UL System schools. I don't think any other administrator from Louisiana Tech is going. So I plan to show up with a list of our current faculty job openings and perhaps a few other items about living and working in Ruston from the Chamber of Commerce.

I agree with Sushma: This is not our audience, and those with good resumes seeking faculty jobs for the Fall term probably have interviews or offers lined up already.

Best regards,
Ramu

Graduate Deans and Directors:

In 2017, the Universities of Louisiana declared three strategic intents:

•       development of the most educated and prepared generation in our state’s history;

• renewed emphasis on research, economic development, and innovation directly advancing community health and prosperity; and

• increased investment in the recruitment, retention, and development of faculty with a focus on excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research.

Recognizing that these aspirations cannot be realized without purposeful outreach to prospective high-quality faculty and staff from diverse demographic, experiential, and cultural backgrounds, the UL System is introducing Future of Academe with an inaugural event on March 9, 2022.

With over 11,000 students pursuing graduate degrees, the UL System has a wide network to recruit, retain, and cultivate the next generation of faculty and staff leaders. Participating graduate students will learn more about opportunities within the UL System through a welcoming networking and professional development event.

UL System graduate students pursuing (or who have recently completed) terminal degrees and are actively seeking faculty or professional staff positions or who have plans to work in academia are invited to attend. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with provosts, deans, diversity officers, faculty attendees and human resources specialists from UL System member institutions about current and upcoming faculty and staff positions. The event will also include a panel discussion designed to prepare graduate students as they pursue university careers. Participants are encouraged to bring their curriculum vitae or resumes to share.  The event is free to all attendees.

Please forward this link<https://www.ulsystem.edu/faculty-staff/future-of-academe/> to your advanced terminal degree seeking graduate students and encourage them to register; we ask that you and other administrators take time to register for the event as well. We also ask that faculty participation (including mentors) be encouraged, especially those who have been part of the System’s Management & Leadership Institute. Space will be limited to the first 200 registrants.

This inaugural event will coincide with the 2022 For Our Future Conference<https://www.ulsystem.edu/for-our-future-conference-2022/>. Those attending Future of Academe will finish the evening with a pre-conference networking reception and are invited to participate in the two-day conference (March 10&11). Registration for the conference is still open.

Thank you for your collaboration.

Best,

Jeannine
