[La-cgs] Health insurance question

Hi all,

According to our Dean of Students, "international students are required to have health insurance. They are notified of the requirement during the admissions process and before they enter the country. To assist them in finding coverage, students are provided contact information for insurance providers, we do not track who uses them. They are required to how verification of hospitalization and major medical coverage by the beginning of their second semester (because it is known that they will enter the states without it). "

Health insurance is not provided to all students.  It was tried once a while back, but was abandoned due to lack of student interest.  The cost was also high.

All,

Health insurance is required for international students.  LSU A&M has a Student Health insurance plan that is offered (not required, students can and do "shop" around) to both domestic and international students.  The cost is high and an annual topic of discussion and frustration.

We also do not provide insurance for domestic graduate students.  Curious about others (and student interest).

Dear fellow members of the Louisiana Council of Graduate Schools:

Do you provide health insurance to US graduate students who are over 26 (the age at which a student is no longer covered on the parents' policies)? Our international students have a group policy that costs ~$130/month but US citizens have none. I checked with our Student Life office and was told that the group was too small for us to negotiate a good rate. I wonder if we will have more clout as a group.
