HI Sushma,

We have the same issue at LSUS. They want transcripts from even one-off courses attended somewhere in the past. This became especially problematic for those with foreign degrees. To mitigate this somewhat, a number of years ago our grad council adopted the following policy:

Applicants with foreign academic credits or credentials may be exempt from submitting foreign credential evaluations under one of the following conditions:-

  1. The foreign academic credits or credentials are not relevant or not considered in the LSUS graduate admission decision.
  2. The applicant has earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution allowing for unconditional admission to LSUS Graduate Studies without regard to the undergraduate GPA.
  3. The foreign academic credits or credentials have been evaluated and accepted by a regionally accredited US institution and are included in that institution's grade point average and/or coursework toward a baccalaureate or graduate degree.

Subject: [La-cgs] Transcript issue

Dear All,

I was wondering how each of your institutions handle transcripts for doctoral applicants. Students typically attend multiple institutions (community colleges or in universities other than in their institution of graduation) while earning their bachelor's degrees. At ULM, we require transcripts from each institution of attendance and not simply a final transcript from the university of graduation.

Is there a reason we would need to request all bachelors level transcripts from every university/college that a student has ever attended for someone applying for a doctoral degree? Shouldn't a final transcript (which has a record of transfer courses) from an institution of graduation, suffice? I was always told this is a UL system policy, but I don't find that verbiage anywhere. I am trying to streamline our application process. My question relates to undergraduate transcripts alone. We require the submission of all graduate level transcripts

Regards,
Sushma
