All,
I will describe the pre-COVID format of graduation ceremonies at LSU-A&M. The format varied by term.
December – Each College held a ceremony and awarded ALL degrees and hooded PhDs. (No common ceremony) [The Provost and other dignitaries trotted from ceremony to ceremony all day.]
May – there was a large ceremony for all graduates that included PhD hooding ceremony AND college specific ceremonies were the other degrees were awarded (Bachelors, Graduate Certificates, Masters, but NOT PhD). This was usually across two days, although recently these were all in the same day with some creative use of large spaces.
August – one large (and really long) ceremony for all graduates at all levels, including PhD hooding.

All,
We are rethinking how we run our commencement exercises. Can you share with me how/where your grad students graduate? Do you award all degrees together? Do you have a separate academic college ceremonies where all bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in that college are awarded? Do you have a separate grad school ceremony? Do you do a hooding ceremony? And, if you do, do you hood only doctoral students or do you include masters?
And, more importantly, do you like what you do?
Thanks in advance for sharing.
Mary
