Faculty of the COB, please read the provost's letter below:
In the past, we released all unadvised students once advising ended. That is no longer possible.
Going forward, no student will be released until they have been advised.

Subject: Fw: CHAMP Advising Initiative
Hi Rob,
Thank you for visiting with me after the recent Associate Dean's meeting. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the College of Business’s historical advising practices.
As you know, the university has adopted the CHAMP model, which was very well received by our on-site reviewers during the recent SACSCOC reaffirmation visit. CHAMP is grounded in a holistic advising philosophy, but it does allow academic units some flexibility in how advising is implemented. The QEP includes a comprehensive assessment strategy that depends on meaningful engagement between undergraduate students and their advisors—engagement that includes, but goes beyond, course scheduling.
When advising holds are routinely lifted at the end of the advising period without any student interaction, it undermines the purpose of holistic advising. This practice misses an opportunity to support student success (i.e., persistence, retention, graduation) through meaningful advising and it jeopardizes the integrity of the QEP’s assessment process. In many cases, the students who miss, or never schedule, advising appointments are those who stand to benefit the most from this intentional, student-centered approach.
I would appreciate your assistance in communicating to COB advisors that advising holds should not be lifted without student interaction. This practice is inconsistent with the goals of the CHAMP model and, more importantly, does not provide students with the level of support they need and deserve. Given that we are currently in the advising period for fall and many faculty will be unavailable during the summer, it is important to notify students now that their advising holds will not be released until they have been advised.
Thank you for your help with this. Please let me know if I can support you or the advising team in any way. DT
